Sunday School for Children and Youth
The pandemic has affected our Sunday School Classes. Please check with the church office at (717) 637-7101 to find out more about any changes which have been made to the schedule.
Sunday School for Children and Youth begins the school year on Rally Day, which is usually the 2nd Sunday of September. It concludes in May on the Sunday before Memorial Day.
Children from two years old to sixth grade are invited to participate in classes held in our Education Building, located across the street from the main church building. We use Witness curriculum from the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. This curriculum is Bible-based, with colorful materials that engage children’s imaginations and growth in faith. Stories from the Old and New Testament are presented, including such favorites as the Creation story, Noah’s Ark, and Jesus’ birth and resurrection.
Youth in grades 7 – 12, meet in the Youth Building located at the rear of the main church building.
No registration is needed. All children and youth are invited to attend one of our Sunday School classes at any time.
Two and Three Year Olds
Our youngest participants enjoy games and play time along with age-appropriate stories and activities in the Two/Three Year old room on the first floor.
Preschool and Kindergarten
Four year olds through Kindergarteners meet in the Kindergarten room at the end of the first floor hallway. Hands-on activities, crafts and colorful story sheets add to the fun they have growing in faith.
First Through Sixth Grade
In individually graded rooms on the second floor, our first through sixth graders engage the Bible in creative ways each week. Second graders are invited to receive their First Communion on Palm Sunday, following a training session for families the day before. Our third graders receive a copy of the SPARK New Revised Standard Version of the Bible at the beginning of the school year as they gain reading skills. Fifth graders learn about Passover and the Last Supper in a special segment to reinforce their learning about Holy Communion.
Seventh and Eighth Grade
Our catechetical instruction takes place during the Sunday School hour for all seventh and eighth graders. This is in preparation for Affirmation of Baptism (Confirmation) on Pentecost Sunday of their eighth grade year. Using Colaborate materials from the ELCA, we learn about the Bible one year and Martin Luther’s Small Catechism the next. Activities both in class and to do at home help our youth along their faith journey. The class meets in room 201/202 in the Youth Building, located at the rear of the main church building.
Senior High
Ninth through twelfth graders gather each Sunday in the newly remodeled youth rooms (303/304), in the Youth Building, to talk about faith in a comfortable and accepting setting.
