Prayer Shawl meeting 4.8.13 006

PRAYER SHAWL MINISTRY will meet on Monday, February 27, at 6:30 p.m. in the Upper Room.  We will have a short devotion, share stories about our creations and enjoy refreshments.  This will be a “teaching meeting” as well for all who would like to learn to knit or crochet a prayer shawl.  We will have extra crochet Prayer Shawl meeting 4.8.13 005hooks, knitting needles and yarn for you to practice with. If you would like to crochet a shawl, please bring an H (5.0) or larger crochet hook and three skeins of yarn.  (About 15 oz.–Red Heart Super Saver works well.)   For knitting, please bring size 11 or 13 knitting needles and the same amount of yarn.  (Traditionally, knitted shawls use Lion Brand Homespun yarn.)  Also, please bring a snack item (cookies, pretzels, chips, veggies, etc.) to share.  Beverages will be provided.

 JOB POSTING:  Discovery Place Preschool at St. Matthew Lutheran Church is lookDiscoveryLogoing to fill the position of Director.  The Director oversees all administrative duties of the preschool, supervises a teaching staff of four and serves as a substitute in classes as necessary.   This is a twelve month position and would begin July 2017.  Our preschool currently offers classes for three and four year olds and a summer program.  We are looking for someone who has a passion for early childhood education and an interest in finding new and innovative ways to grow and improve our Christian preschool.  Past teaching and/or administrative experience is a plus, but is not mandatory.  If you would be interested in interviewing for this position or would like more information, please contact Board Chairperson DeAnn Books at 717-521-6198 or deannbooks@yahoo.com.


THEOLOGY ON TAP will head to Miscreation on the Square of Hanover on Sunday, February 26, immediately following the Annual Congregation Meeting.  (So, about 12:30)  All adults over 21 are welcome to our discussion on a topic about faith.  Their lunch menu includes salads, paninis and appetizers.  They have a large microbrew and local wine selection along with soft drinks.  No reservations are necessary–just show up!

COVER TO COVER’S next book is “A Man Called Ove.”  Ove is a curmudgeon who seems to dislike everyone and everything.  When a young family moves into his neighborhood, he sees it as a total disaster.  Ove, and readers of the book, discover that all is not what it first appears to be.  Fredrik Backman is the author of this heart-warming and heart-breaking book.  A copy is available in the church library to borrow.  Our discussion will be on Monday, March 6, 7:00 p.m.

ST MATT’S LUNCH OUT  goes Italian at La Cucina on Thursday, March 9, 11:45 a.m.  Their lunch menu has lots of choices from sandwiches to salads to pasta dishes.  They are located on S. Baltimore Street in front of Weis.


ENJOY BREAKFAST FOR DINNER at our annual Shroshrove tuesdayve Tuesday celebration on Tuesday, February 28, 5:30 p.m. in Fellowship Hall.  There will be pancakes, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage and of course, donuts!  This is the traditional day when people would clean out their cupboards to prepare for the Lenten fast.  Please sign up at the Hospitality Desk or in the church office to help us plan for the right amount of food.  All are welcome!

HOLY BOWLERS  meets the 1st and 3rd Thursday of each month. Bowlers of any and all skill levels are welcome!  Join Miss Jan for Bible study at 1:00 p.m. in the Party Room.  Then bowl with us at 1:45.  Three games, including shoe rental,  is $5.00.  You may choose to bowl fewer games or just stay to cheer us on.  The snack bar is open for lunch or snacks during the study or bowling.  No registration or reservations are necessary.

FAIR TRADE PRODUCTS are used here at St. Matthew.  When you have a cup of coffee or tea, you are enjoying a Fair Trade product!  Thank you for your continued support of our Fair Trade Product sales.  Visit our table in the Gathering Place on the third Sunday of each month. CYBER WOMEN gather at Panera’s each month to discuss the current articles in Cafe, the on-line magazine of the Women of the ELCA. You may find it at www.boldcafe.org.  Please bring your internet-ready device or share one of ours.  Women of all ages are welcome!  Our next meeting is Monday, February 20, 7:00 to 8:00 p.m.

Our WOMEN OF THE ELCA continue to wrap PERSONAL CARE KITS for distribution by Lutheran World Relief in many places where basic necessities of life are needed.  Kits include 2 bath-size bars of soap and a toothbrush (both still in original packaging,) a nail clipper and a sturdy comb (both removed from original packaging,) and a bath towel, preferably a dark color.  Items for the kits may be placed in the proper box by the elevator, or brought to the church office.  Monetary donations for purchasing kit items will also be accepted.  Please make checks payable to St. Matthew Lutheran Church and put “personal care kit” on the memo line.
